Career
Kapoor started his journey in the film industry as an assistant director on Nikhil Advani’s “Kal Ho Naa Ho” in 2003. He continued assisting Advani on projects like “Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute to Love” (2007) and worked as an associate producer on his father’s productions “No Entry” (2005) and “Wanted” (2009). Later, he signed a three-film contract with Yash Raj Films.
In 2011, Kapoor was set to debut with “Virus Diwan,” but the project was shelved. Instead, he starred in Yash Raj Films’ romantic drama “Ishaqzaade” (2012) alongside Parineeti Chopra.
His next film with Yash Raj Films was the action thriller “Aurangzeb” (2013), where he portrayed twin brothers caught in a conspiracy. Despite critical acclaim, the film didn’t perform well commercially. In 2014, Kapoor starred in the crime action film “Gunday” alongside Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra.
After his contract with Yash Raj Films ended, Kapoor starred in “2 States” (2014), an adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel, opposite Alia Bhatt. The film was a major commercial success, becoming Kapoor’s highest-grossing film at that time. In the same year, he appeared in “Finding Fanny” (2014), a satirical comedy directed by Homi Adajania, which received mixed reviews.
In 2015, Kapoor starred in “Tevar,” which failed both critically and commercially. However, he redeemed himself with “Ki & Ka” (2016), a satirical comedy-drama where he played a stay-at-home husband opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.
In 2017, Kapoor appeared in “Half Girlfriend,” based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, and “Mubarakan,” a comedy where he portrayed twin brothers. In 2018, Kapoor starred in “Namaste England,” a spin-off to “Namastey London,” which turned out to be a box-office disaster. In 2019, Kapoor faced more disappointments with “India’s Most Wanted” and “Panipat,” both of which underperformed at the box office.
In the following years, Kapoor’s films continued to struggle commercially, including “Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar” (2021), “Sardar Ka Grandson” (2021), “Bhoot Police” (2021), “Ek Villain Returns” (2022), and “Kuttey” (2023). However, his OTT releases gained some traction. In 2023, Kapoor was seen in “Meri Patni Ka Remake” opposite Rakul Preet Singh and Bhumi Pednekar.
