Early Life
Dadlani grew up in a Sindhi Hindu family in Bandra, West Bombay.[9] He studied at Hill Grange High School in Pedder Road, Cumbala Hill, South Bombay. Later, he attended Jai Hind College, University of Mumbai, for two years (1989–90), and then moved on to H.R. College of Commerce and Economics, HSNC University, both located in Churchgate, South Bombay. In 1994, he completed his bachelor’s degree in commerce.
Career
Dadlani began his music journey in 1994 as the lead singer of the Mumbai-based band Pentagram, known for its electronica and indie-rock style. Pentagram is considered a trailblazer in Indian independent music.
While still part of Pentagram, Dadlani became well-known in Bollywood as a music composer, singer, and lyricist. He contributed to movies like Jhankaar Beats, Bluff Master, and Salaam Namaste.
In 1999, Vishal–Shekhar, a duo comprising Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani, was formed. They collaborated on music for Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Marathi films. Some of their notable projects include Jhankaar Beats (2003), Dus (2005), Bluffmaster (2005), and Om Shanti Om (2007). The duo has become widely recognized for shaping the contemporary Bollywood sound, working on over 60 films, releasing 300+ songs, and performing in 1,000+ shows globally.
Their breakthrough came in 2003 with the film Jhankaar Beats, featuring the popular song “Tu Aashiqui Hai.” Their work on the film earned them the Filmfare RD Burman Award for New Music Talent in 2004.
