Career
Neha Bhasin won her first singing competition at the age of 9, performing Mariah Carey’s song “Hero.” Aspiring to become a pop star since childhood, she joined Shiamak Davar’s dance academy to learn various dance forms and received vocal classical training from Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
At 18, Neha became an overnight sensation when she was selected by Coke V Popstars, a nationwide talent search conducted by Channel V, to be part of the 5-girl pop group Viva. This group included Seema Ramchandani, Pratichee Mohapatra, Mahua Kamat, and Anushka Manchanda. Neha was attending Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi when she auditioned for the competition in 2002.
After the band broke up in 2004, Neha pursued a career in Bollywood and Tamil film music. Her first significant Bollywood breakthrough came in 2007 with the song ‘Kuch Khass Hai,’ which earned her a Filmfare nomination in 2008. Her debut Tamil song, ‘Pesugiren Pesugiren,’ composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, won her the Vijay Award for Best Female Playback Singer in 2008.
In 2021, Neha was featured on the Times Square Billboard as the artist of the month on Spotify for her song ‘Oot Patangi.’ On a personal note, Neha married music composer Sameer Uddin in a western wedding in Tuscany, Italy, on October 23, 2016.
