Early Life
Himesh Reshammiya, born in Mumbai on 23 July 1973, is the son of Vipin Reshammiya, a well-known Indian music composer, and Madhu Reshammiya. At the age of 21, Reshammiya tied the knot with Komal, and together they have a son named Swaym.
However, things changed in their relationship, and on 12 September 2016, it was reported that Himesh and Komal decided to separate, eventually filing for divorce. Later, on 11 May 2018, Himesh married his longtime girlfriend, actress Sonia Kapoor. These personal events reflect the different phases in Himesh Reshammiya’s life.
Career
Himesh Reshammiya kicked off his career by producing TV series like Andaz, Ahha, Aman, Aashiqui, Amar Prem, and Jaan on Zee TV. He even composed the title tracks for some of these shows. Interestingly, his father had plans to make a film with Salman Khan in the 1990s, which unfortunately didn’t happen. However, when Salman Khan heard one of Reshammiya’s compositions, he was impressed and promised him a chance to compose music for one of his films.
In 1998, Reshammiya made his debut as a music composer in the Salman Khan starrer Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya, creating two hit songs: “Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya” and “Tum Par Hum Hai Aatke.” This marked the beginning of his successful journey in the Bollywood music scene.
He continued to compose music for films like Bandhan, Hello Brother, and gained recognition with the Salman Khan film Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge. His work on Humraaz earned him a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Music Direction.
Between 2003 and 2010, Reshammiya rose to greater prominence with the music for Tere Naam (2003), winning awards like the Zee Cine Award and Screen Award for Best Music Director. His singing career took off with the song “Aashiq Banaya Aapne,” earning him several awards as a playback singer.
His album Aap Kaa Surroor – The Album (2006) became a massive success, selling 55 million copies and becoming one of India’s top-selling albums. Besides music, Reshammiya ventured into acting with the film Aap Kaa Surroor.
Beyond his musical accomplishments, Reshammiya participated as a judge and mentor on various singing competitions, including Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge and Music Ka Maha Muqqabla. He was also a judge on the musical reality show Sur Kshetra.
From 2011 to 2020, Reshammiya expanded his horizons, acting in and producing movies like The Xposé and its sequel. In 2022, he composed all the songs for Anand L. Rai’s film Raksha Bandhan, collaborating with Akshay Kumar after a decade. He announced his upcoming movie Badass Ravikumar in November 2022, a spinoff of the hit movie The Xposé.
In 2021, Reshammiya launched his music label, Himesh Reshammiya Melodies, releasing the successful album Surroor 2021. The label has gained popularity, amassing billions of views on YouTube and audio streams across various platforms.
