Diljit Dosanjh was born on 6th January 1984 in the village of Dosanjh Kalan in Punjab, India, to a Sikh family. His dad, Balbir Singh, used to work for Punjab Roadways, and his mom, Sukhwinder Kaur, takes care of their home. Diljit has an elder sister and a younger brother.

He spent his early years in Dosanjh Kalan before moving to Ludhiana, Punjab, where he finished his schooling at Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School. It’s near D Block Model Town Arwa in Ludhiana.

Even during his school days, Diljit started singing by performing Kirtan, which is religious music in Sikh culture, at local gurdwaras. After some time, Diljit and his family moved to Ludhiana, where they currently live.

Diljit Dosanjh was born on January 6, 1984, in the village of Dosanjh Kalan in Punjab, India. His early childhood was spent in Dosanjh Kalan, and later the family moved to Ludhiana, Punjab, where he completed his education at Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School.

Even during his school days, Diljit began his singing career by performing Kirtan, which is Sikh religious music, at local gurdwaras. The family later settled in Ludhiana. In 2004, Diljit released his first album, “Ishq Da Uda Ada,” with Finetone Cassettes, a division of T-Series. Rajinder Singh of Finetone played a crucial role in launching Diljit’s Punjabi music career, suggesting the spelling “Diljit” instead of “Daljit.” The album included eight tracks with music by Bablu Mahindra and lyrics by Balvir Boparai. Diljit sang vocals for all the songs, and a music video was made for the title track.

Following this, he released several more albums and singles, gaining popularity with each release. In 2011, Diljit made his entry into mainstream Punjabi films with “The Lion of Punjab.” Although the film didn’t perform well, the track “Lak 28 Kudi Da” from its soundtrack became a major success. He continued to star in Punjabi films, achieving notable success with movies like “Jatt & Juliet” in 2012, for which he won the PTC Punjabi Film Award for Best Actor.

Diljit expanded his career to Bollywood with his debut in “Udta Punjab” (2016), a crime drama addressing substance abuse in Punjab. The film, co-starring Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, and Alia Bhatt, was a commercial success. In 2020, Diljit released his 11th album, “G.O.A.T,” which gained international recognition, entering the top of Billboard’s Top Triller Global chart. The following year, he released his twelfth album, “Moonchild Era,” making him the first Indian artist with three albums on the Billboard Charts.

Diljit also ventured into film production with his debut film, “Honsla Rakh,” released in 2021. The film became the highest-grossing Punjabi film on its opening day. Diljit Dosanjh has not only made his mark in the entertainment industry but also achieved milestones such as being the first turbaned Sikh honored with a wax figure at Madame Tussauds. He continues to showcase his talent globally, with performances at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in 2023, making him the first Punjabi artist to do so. Additionally, he is set to star in a biopic about the life of Punjabi singer Amar Singh Chamkila alongside Parineeti Chopra.
