Kanika Kapoor was born in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, into a Khatri family that belongs to the Dhai Ghar family-group. Her parents are Rajeev Kapoor, who is a businessman, and Poonam Kapoor, who owns a boutique. She studied music in Lucknow and began her musical journey at the age of 12 when she started learning classical music under the guidance of musician Pandit Ganesh Prasad Mishra from Varanasi. During this time, she accompanied him to classical concerts across India.

In her school days, at the age of 15, Kanika Kapoor actively participated in various music competitions. She also had the opportunity to work with All India Radio and performed with the renowned bhajan singer Anup Jalota in his shows. Kanika completed her B.A. and later pursued a Masters in music from the Bhatkhande Music Institute in Lucknow. Career

In 2013, Kanika Kapoor released the music video “Jugni Ji” with Dr. Zeus. This track was a remix of the Pakistani Sufi song “Alif Allah.” Originally performed by Arif Lohar and Meesha Shafi on Coke Studio Pakistan in 2010, “Jugni Ji” became one of the biggest singles of 2012. Kapoor received the Brit Asia TV Music Award for Best Single due to its success. Following this, Meet Bros Anjjan invited her to sing “Baby Doll” for the film Ragini MMS 2 (2014), her debut in Bollywood singing. The song topped charts, won awards, and marked her as the Best Female Playback Singer at the Filmfare Awards.

In the same year, Kapoor collaborated with Dr. Zeus and Vishal–Shekhar for the song “Lovely” in Happy New Year, alongside Deepika Padukone. Both “Lovely” and the Punjabi remix “Kamlee” were well-received and achieved success.

In 2015, she performed in the “SLAM! The Tour” alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone. Kapoor, also a brand ambassador for a children’s NGO, supported children’s education. She relaunched her fashion brand, “Kanika Kapoor: House of Chikankari,” aiming to help female artisans in Lucknow.

Kapoor sang a welcome song titled “Hello Namstey” for Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2015. She continued arranging and participating in live shows and concerts. In 2016, she collaborated with various composers, expressing a focus on Sufi and classical tracks. Kapoor became the brand ambassador for Swiss Watch manufacturer 88 Rue du Rhone in 2016 and a judge on The Voice (season 3) in 2019.
