Early Life
Madhuri Dixit was born on 15 May 1967 in Mumbai into a Marathi Kokanastha Brahmin family to Shankar and Snehlata Dixit. She has two elder sisters and an elder brother. At the young age of three, Madhuri discovered her passion for dance, particularly Kathak. She dedicated eight years to training in Kathak, eventually becoming a professionally trained Kathak dancer.
Her journey in dance took a significant turn when she received a scholarship as a Kathak dancer at the age of nine. Madhuri’s name first appeared in the newspaper after a dance performance at the Guru Purnima festival when she was seven or eight years old. A journalist praised her, stating that “this little girl stole the show.” This early recognition fueled her sense of achievement and self-worth.
Madhuri Dixit attended Divine Child High School in Andheri, where, alongside her studies, she actively participated in extracurricular activities such as dramatics. Although initially aspiring to become a microbiologist, she enrolled at Sathaye College in Vile Parle (Mumbai) to study microbiology as part of her BSc. However, after six months into her course, Madhuri decided to discontinue her studies and fully pursue a career in films.
