Career
At 17, AvrRam joined the Stockholm-based Pardesi Dance Group and performed dances, mainly on Bollywood songs. She also acted in Sweden, most notably in the December 2008 crime drama romance film, “Förbjuden Frukt,” where she played Selen, the lead character’s teenage girlfriend who falls in love with a boy with a criminal past.
In 2010, AvrRam participated in the Miss Greece beauty contest and appeared on the Swedish TV show “Gomorron Sverige.” In September 2012, she moved to Mumbai on a tourist visa to pursue an acting career in Bollywood. Inspired by the film “Devdas,” she wanted to act and dance in Hindi movies. She signed with a modeling agency, which helped her secure auditions, and her first significant project was a TV commercial for Eveready Industries India with Akshay Kumar.
AvrRam’s big break came when she landed a lead role in Saurabh Varma’s comedy thriller film “Mickey Virus.” Despite not knowing Hindi initially, she impressed the director with her acting skills. For her Bollywood debut, she trained in dance and Hindi pronunciation. In “Mickey Virus,” she played Kamayani George, the love interest of the character Mickey Virus, portrayed by Manish Paul. The film, shot in Delhi, was released on 25 October 2013.
She became the first Swedish actress to act in Bollywood and was noted for her resemblance to actress Katrina Kaif. In 2013, she participated in the Indian reality TV show “Bigg Boss 7,” hosted by Salman Khan. She was evicted after ten weeks but gained widespread recognition.
In October 2013, colleges in Chandigarh banned students from displaying posters of AvrRam, considering her images inappropriate. In 2014, she appeared as a guest contestant on the dance reality show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa” for its teen ka tadka special week.
Her third film, “Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon,” was released in September 2015 and was successful at the box office. In 2017, she appeared in two films, “Naam Shabana” and “Poster Boys,” and presented the reality show “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.”
In 2018, she featured in the film “Baazaar” in the song “Billionaire” alongside Rohan Mehra and Saif Ali Khan. While the film did not perform well, the song received good reviews. She performed a dance act on the song “Chamma Chamma” for the film “Fraud Saiyaan,” which gained over 15 million YouTube views in three days. She also appeared in the song “Zila Hilela” with Sidharth Malhotra in the movie “Jabariya Jodi.”
In March 2019, she appeared in a music video called “Haaye Oye,” released by Sony Music India. In 2020, she acted in the film “Malang” as Jesse. In 2021, she made her Tamil debut with the film “Naane Varuvean” opposite Dhanush. Her special dance number “Har Funn Maula” with Aamir Khan garnered more than 90 million views on YouTube.
