Career
Shamita Shetty entered the film industry in 2000 with her debut in the Yash Raj Films production “Mohabbatein,” directed by Aditya Chopra. Her portrayal of Ishika earned her the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female in 2001.
Following this success, she showcased her dancing skills in popular Bollywood songs like “Sharara Sharara” from “Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai” (2002), “Chori Pe Chori” from “Saathiya” (2002), and “Mind Blowing Mahiya” from “Cash” (2007). She received acclaim for her performance in “Zeher” (2005) and worked alongside her sister Shilpa Shetty in the film “Fareb.” Additionally, she appeared in multi-star projects such as “Bewafaa” (2005) and “Cash” (2007).
In 2009, Shamita participated in the reality TV series “Bigg Boss 3,” where she gained attention for being the only contestant who was never nominated during her stay in the Bigg Boss house. She left the show after 42 days to attend her sister Shilpa’s wedding.
Transitioning her focus in 2013, Shamita pursued her passion for interior design. After completing a course in London and interning with an architect’s firm, she launched her own interior designing company, Golden Leaf Interiors.
Her projects included designing the club “Royalty” in Mumbai and her nephew Viaan’s room. She won the Best Interior Design Award at the Asia Spa Awards for her work on Chandigarh Iosis Spa. In 2015, she showcased her dancing skills again on the reality show “Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 8.”
Returning to acting in 2017, Shamita starred in Voot’s comedy web series “Yo Ke Hua Bro” alongside Aparshakti Khurana, Gaurav Pandey, and Ridhima Pandit. In 2019, she participated in Colors TV’s stunt reality show “Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi,” finishing as the third runner-up. She also appeared in T-Series’ music video titled “Teri Maa.”
In 2020, Shamita starred in the film “The Tenant” as Meera and portrayed Kavita Tharoor in ZEE5’s thriller film “Black Widows.” She received praise for her role in “Black Widows,” with critics noting her vivaciousness. The film “The Tenant” was screened at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles and won the Best Film Award at the Indian Film Festival Stuttgart 2021.
In September 2021, Shamita participated in Voot’s “Bigg Boss OTT,” finishing as the second runner-up. She then joined Colors TV’s “Bigg Boss 15” and became the first and last captain of the season, winning the Style Icon Award and finishing as the third runner-up.
In 2022, Shamita starred in T-Series’ music video titled “Tere Vich Rab Disda.” She expressed excitement about her role in “The Tenant,” marking her return to cinema after 15 years, emphasizing its reflection of modern societal issues.
