Career
Vikas Gupta began his career as an intern at Balaji Telefilms when he was just 17 years old. However, he was fired after only four days. Despite this setback, he persevered and eventually became one of the youngest creative heads at Balaji Telefilms, working under TV director Deeya Singh. Interestingly, the person who initially fired him later recognized his talent and called him back.
In Mumbai, Gupta started writing for Bhimsain Khurana, director of the Bollywood film “Gharaonda.”
His television career took off when he joined Balaji Telefilms as a creative director, working on series like “Kyunki… Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi…” (2005-2008), “Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil” (2008-2010), and “Kitani Mohabbat Hai” (2009). In 2012, he established Lost Boy Media Productions, where he worked as a producer and writer, creating shows like “The Serial” (2012) and “MTV Webbed” (2013-2016).
Under Lost Boy Media Productions, he pitched several shows to TV channels, including “Gumrah: End of Innocence” (2012-2016), which earned him award nominations and recognition. He ventured into acting briefly but quit the TV serial “Pyaar Kii Ye Ek Kahaani” (2010) after a short stint. Gupta also made appearances as a host and contestant on various reality TV shows like “Bad Company” (2015), “Ace of Space 1” (2018), and “Ace of Space 2” (2019).
His involvement in reality shows expanded with appearances on “Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi 9” (2019), “Mujhse Shaadi Karoge” (2020), and multiple seasons of “Bigg Boss.” In 2017, he participated in “Bigg Boss Season 11” and emerged as the second runner-up. He returned as a guest in “Bigg Boss Season 12” and later entered “Bigg Boss Season 13” as a proxy for Devoleena Bhattacharjee.
In 2016, Gupta launched Lost and Found Talent Management & Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., aiming to promote talent in the entertainment industry. The company, headquartered in Mumbai, has managed several prominent names and helped them transition to Bollywood. Gupta’s journey in the entertainment industry has been marked by highs and lows, but his resilience and creativity have led him to establish himself as a significant figure in Indian television.
Controversy
In 2013, allegations emerged against Vikas Gupta from his alleged ex-boyfriend, Parth Samthaan, accusing him of molestation. However, shortly after, they were spotted together at a party in Goa. Ekta Kapoor, in an interview, confirmed their relationship but Parth denied it, asserting he was in a relationship with a girl. Parth also claimed that Gupta owed him money for a show and accused him of demanding a ransom and threatening his career. He filed a police complaint, leading to a court notice for Gupta. In response, Gupta released a photo of Parth kissing his cheek, implying mutual affection.
In 2021, Vikas Khoker alleged that Gupta solicited sexual involvement after Khoker’s win on “Roadies 9,” requesting objectionable photos and massages. Gupta purportedly threatened Khoker when he spoke out. During Bigg Boss Season 11, contestant Shilpa Shinde dubbed Gupta the “TV industry mafia,” alleging his influence and drug use. Contestants Aly Goni and Jasmin Bhasin accused him of taking work from others, while Arshi Khan claimed he removed her from projects, leaving her unemployed.
In 2020, Gupta publicly revealed his bisexuality, citing blackmail and bullying by Priyank Sharma and Parth Samthaan. He claimed his family abandoned him over his orientation. However, his mother, Sharda Gupta, refuted this, stating their estrangement predated his coming out and had no connection to his sexuality. The controversies surrounding Gupta have unfolded over the years, involving allegations of misconduct, threats, and familial discord, casting a shadow on his career and personal life.
