Career
In 1994, Maheep appeared in a 90s music video for the song “Nigori Kaisi Jawani Hai” by Ila Arun, a popular Indian folk-pop singer. Soon after, she was set to make her Bollywood debut in the film “Shivam,” opposite Panini Raajkumar, son of actor Raaj Kumar. However, the project was later canceled. Following this setback, Maheep transitioned into the jewelry business as a designer. She expressed her passion for jewelry in an interview, explaining how her hobby of designing pieces for herself evolved into a full-fledged career as demand grew among friends and family.
Maheep then joined Satyani Fine Jewels in Mumbai as a jewelry designer. Her collection, titled “Chandbalis for Satyani Fine Jewels,” gained immense popularity, with Bollywood celebrities like Malaika Arora and Neha Dhupia wearing her stunning chandelier earrings. Inspired by Mughal jewelry, Maheep’s chandbalis were crafted using various techniques, resulting in unique masterpieces.
In 2006, she designed jewelry for the Bollywood film “Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.” The following year, her jewelry designs were featured in the blockbuster film “Om Shaanti Om,” earning her widespread recognition.
In 2007, Maheep and her husband, Sanjay Kapoor, established Sanjay Kapoor Entertainment Private Limited, a production house. The same year, she took on the role of director for the company. In 2013, Maheep co-founded Bandra 190, a luxury retail boutique, alongside Sussanne Khan and Seema Khan. The boutique catered to high-end clientele seeking exclusive fashion items.
The next year, she ventured into the online retail space with VIVA-LUXE, a luxury platform specializing in Asian designer-wear. In this venture, Maheep served as the fashion director, bringing her expertise to curate a premium selection of fashion items.
In 2020, Maheep made her digital debut in the Netflix reality series “Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives.” The show offers viewers a glimpse into the lives of Maheep and her real-life friends Neelam Kothari Soni, Seema Khan, and Bhavna Pandey, who are all married to Bollywood celebrities.
