Career
Vandana Vishwas began her singing journey while still a college student, working part-time for All India Radio. In 1993, just after completing her architecture degree, she was invited by Doordarshan, the Indian National TV Channel, to perform. Her talent caught the attention of many, including Bollywood music directors.
Despite numerous opportunities in the music industry, Vandana initially prioritized her architecture career and moved to Dubai. After 22 years in architecture, she returned to singing in 2009 with her debut album, “Meera, the Lover.” This album, inspired by the story of the 16th-century Indian queen Meera Bai’s love for Krishna, marked her comeback to music.
In subsequent years, Vandana released several albums showcasing her versatility. “Monologues” (2013) blended South Asian melodies with Jazz and Rock, earning her significant acclaim. “Samarsiddha” (2014) was a single released in promotion of Sandeep Nayyar’s debut novel of the same name.
“Parallels” (2016) featured a fusion of South Indian melodies with Western styles like Flamenco, Country, and Rock. Vandana made her debut as a lyricist with this album, which included the popular song “Mai Beqaid (Flamenco).”
In 2021, Vandana released “Nav Varsh Mangalkamna Geet,” a Sanskrit hymn launched on New Year’s during the Covid pandemic. Her latest album, “Kabeera-The Thinker” (2023), draws inspiration from the 15th-century Indian philosopher and poet, Kabir.
Throughout her career, Vandana has performed live at various concerts and events, showcasing her unique style of fusing Indian and Western music. Her performances, blending rock and pop with ghazals, nazms, thumri, and geet, have earned her recognition from audiences in Canada, the United States, and India.
