Born as Shivani Desai on 13 February 1986 in Nagaon town, Assam, Rashami Desai is of Gujarati origin. She grew up in Mumbai and completed her schooling and undergraduation in the city. Rashami has a brother named Gaurav Desai. She pursued a diploma degree in Tours and Travels from Narsee Monjee College of Commerce and Economics in Mumbai.

Career

Rashami Desai, born as Shivani Desai on 13 February 1986 in Nagaon town, Assam, began her acting journey with regional films. Her debut in Bollywood was in the 2004 romantic mystery film “Yeh Lamhe Judaai Ke” alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Raveena Tandon. In the movie, she portrayed Sheetal, a college student whose elder sister is tragically murdered.

Following her Bollywood debut, Desai expanded her presence in regional cinema, gaining recognition in the Bhojpuri film industry with movies like “Balma Bada Nadaan” and “Gabbar Singh.” One of her notable achievements was starring in the National Award-winning film “Kab Hoi Gauna Hammar” in 2005.

Desai made her television debut in 2006 with the mythological drama series “Ravan” on Zee TV, playing the role of Queen Mandodari. She also ventured into English films with “Sambar Salsa” in 2007.

In 2008, Desai gained prominence in daily soaps with her dual role in Star One’s “Pari Hoon Main.” The series, directed and produced by Ravi Chopra, featured Desai as Nikki Shrivastav and Pari Rai Choudhary, two look-alikes exchanging identities. In 2021, Desai made her web debut in the crime drama web series “Tandoor” alongside Tanuj Virwani. Loosely based on the infamous Tandoor case in Delhi, she played the role of Palak Sahni, an aspiring politician murdered by her husband. Desai also collaborated with Rahul Vaidya for music covers and featured in music videos like “Subhan Allah” and “Zindagi Khafa Khafa.” In November 2021, she entered “Bigg Boss 15” as a wildcard contestant and became the fifth runner-up.

In March 2022, Desai appeared in three music videos titled “Qatilana,” “Biraj Mein Jhoom,” and “Tere Pind.” She made a cameo in “Naagin 6,” reprising her role as Shalaka and introducing a new character, Shanglira. In April 2022, Desai collaborated with Neha Bhasin for the music video “Parwah.” Desai then played the titular character of Ruby in the second season of the anthology series “Ratri Ke Yatri,” shedding light on women from red-light areas. The show premiered in October 2022.

As of 2023, Desai has worked on the Hindi film “Mission Laila” alongside Rajpal Yadav and another Hindi film titled “Hisaab Barabar” with R. Madhavan. She has also shot for her second Gujarati film titled “Mom Tane Nai Samjay” and is set to make her Punjabi feature film debut in a romantic comedy titled “Chambe Di Booti.” Desai has also appeared in a brief role in the JioCinema series titled “LLB – Bas Naam Hi Kaafi Hai” and has shot for Hindi films “Idiots” alongside Urvashi Rautela and “Evara-Blessing Of God” alongside Gauri Pardhan.
