Kalki Koechlin made her debut in Indian cinema with Anurag Kashyap’s black comedy-drama “Dev.D” in 2009. Despite initial rejection due to not being Indian, Koechlin impressed Kashyap with her audition tape and was cast as Leni/Chanda, a character based on Chandramukhi from the novel “Devdas.” The film received positive reviews, with particular praise for Koechlin’s performance, earning her a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.
