The film was a success and earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
In 1997, Deol’s breakthrough role came in the suspense thriller “Gupt: The Hidden Truth”, where he portrayed Sahil, a young man wrongly imprisoned for murder. The film was praised for its storyline and soundtrack, establishing Deol as a prominent actor. However, his other release that year, “Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya”, failed to make an impact at the box office.
The following year, Deol starred in “Kareeb” and “Soldier”, both of which were commercially successful. In “Kareeb”, he played Birju, a young man with a penchant for mischief, while in “Soldier”, he portrayed Vicky, a character entangled in a web of deceit and intrigue.
In 1999, Deol appeared in “Dillagi”, directed by his brother Sunny Deol. This marked the beginning of their on-screen collaboration, which continued in films like “23rd March 1931: Shaheed”, “Apne”, and “Yamla Pagla Deewana” in subsequent years.
Throughout the early 2000s, Deol appeared in a variety of films, including “Badal”, “Hum To Mohabbat Karega”, and “Bichhoo”. While some of these films were commercially successful, others received mixed reviews from critics.

In 2017, Deol attempted to make a comeback with “Poster Boys”, but the film was unsuccessful at the box office. However, he found success with films like “Race 3”, “Yamla Pagla Deewana: Phir Se”, and “Housefull 4” in subsequent years.
