Career

Nawazuddin Siddiqui began his journey in acting by attending the National School of Drama in New Delhi. After graduating in 1999, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career.

In 1999, Siddiqui made his Bollywood debut with a small role in the film “Sarfarosh” starring Aamir Khan. He continued to appear in films like Ram Gopal Varma’s “Shool” and “Jungle” in 1999, and Rajkumar Hirani’s “Munnabhai MBBS” in 2003.

Despite his early appearances, Siddiqui faced a period of struggle between 2002 and 2005. He lived in a shared apartment in Goregaon and conducted occasional acting workshops to make ends meet.

His breakthrough came with Anusha Rizvi’s “Peepli Live” in 2010, where his portrayal of a journalist earned him wide recognition as an actor. Following this, he received critical acclaim for his role in Prashant Bhargava’s “Patang: The Kite”, which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.

In 2012, Siddiqui starred in the critically acclaimed film “Kahaani” and gained further prominence with Anurag Kashyap’s “Gangs of Wasseypur”. He continued to impress audiences and critics with his performances in films like “Miss Lovely”, “The Lunchbox”, and “Talaash”.

Over the years, Siddiqui’s versatility and talent garnered him numerous awards, including the Special Jury Award at the National Film Awards and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor.

In 2015, Siddiqui delivered notable performances in films like “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” and “Manjhi – The Mountain Man”. He further solidified his reputation with his role in “Raman Raghav 2.0”, winning awards at Fancine Malaga and the Asia Pacific Screen Awards.

In 2021, Siddiqui appeared in the film “No Land’s Man”, followed by roles in “Heropanti 2” in 2022 and “Afwaah”, “Jogira Sara Ra Ra”, and in 2023 in “Tiku Weds Sheru” .
