Career

Aari began his acting career in theatre, performing in productions by Magic Lantern, Theatre Nisha, and Inland Theatres. He first appeared in a minor role in the film Alaiyadikkuthu (2005) and later played the role of Muthu in Aadum Koothu (2006). Aari made his lead debut in Rettaisuzhi, produced by director Shankar, where he portrayed Murthy, an army man returning to his village. Notably, he is the only actor to have acted with two legendary directors, Balachandar and Bharathiraja, in the same film.

In October 2011, it was announced that Aari would star in Maalai Pozhudhin Mayakathilaey alongside Miss South India 2010 winner Shubha Phutela. Aari mentioned that playing an ordinary guy was challenging as he had to keep his emotions minimal at all times.

Aari took on the lead role in N. Krishna’s Nedunchaalai (2014), a romantic road trip film set in the 1980s, which took two years to complete. Critics praised his performance, noting that Aari immersed himself in the character of Murugan with such conviction that it was impossible to separate the actor from the part. The film received positive reviews.

Despite completing the comedy Kadai Enn 6, it remains unreleased. Another film, Dharani, directed by newcomer Guhan Sambandham, was released in 2015 but did not perform well. In the same year, Aari played a pivotal role in the supernatural thriller Maya alongside Nayanthara, which was both a critical and commercial success.

Aari was cast in the lead role for N. Krishna’s next venture, Maane Thene Paeye, a romantic comedy opposite Subhashree Ganguly, but the project was dropped halfway through production. In 2016, he appeared in Unnodu Ka, a commercial entertainer that performed averagely at the box office. He later starred in the horror comedy Nagesh Thirayarangam opposite Ashna Zaveri.

Upcoming projects for Aari include Ellam Mele Irukkuruvan Pathuppan, a sci-fi movie with an alien backdrop, Aleka, a romantic thriller, Bagavan, a mythological drama, and an action thriller titled TN-43. He has also been cast in a significant role in Nenjuku Needhi, the Tamil remake of the critically acclaimed Hindi film Article 15, alongside Udhayanidhi Stalin and directed by Arunraja Kamaraj.

In January 2021, Aari won the title of the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil 4. After his stint on Bigg Boss, he acted in the film Nenjuku Needhi, the Tamil version of Article 15.
