Akshaye Khanna stepped into the world of acting in 1997 with his debut film “Himalay Putra,” a romantic drama directed by Pankaj Parashar. The movie featured his father, Vinod Khanna, along with a star-studded cast. Although Khanna’s performance earned him a Screen Award for Best Male Debut, the film didn’t fare well at the box office.
Later that year, he appeared in J.P. Dutta’s war drama “Border,” depicting the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. Khanna portrayed the real-life character Dharamvir Singh Bhan. The film received praise for its portrayal of historical events and emerged as the second highest-grossing Bollywood film of 1997. Khanna’s performance earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
