Career
In June 2015, Zaira Wasim was signed by director Nitesh Tiwari to make her film debut with the biographical sports film “Dangal” (2016). The film received positive reviews from critics and became the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. Wasim’s performance as Geeta Phogat earned her acclaim, including the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
The following year, Wasim found her breakthrough role in Advait Chandan’s directorial debut “Secret Superstar” (2017). The film earned critical acclaim and became the third highest-grossing Indian film worldwide. Wasim won the Filmfare Award for Best Actress (Critics) for her portrayal of Insia Malik.
In November 2017, Wasim was honored with the National Child Award for Exceptional Achievement by President Ram Nath Kovind for her performances in both “Dangal” and “Secret Superstar.”
As of March 2019, Wasim completed shooting for her next film, “The Sky Is Pink,” a biopic of motivational speaker Aisha Chaudhary. The film received critical acclaim upon its release in October 2019.
On 30 June 2019, Wasim announced her retirement from acting due to conflicts with her religious beliefs and faith. In November 2020, she requested fans to remove her pictures from social media as she embarked on a new chapter in her life.
