Career
Swapnil Joshi began his acting career at the age of nine, playing young Kusha in Ramanand Sagar’s television show Uttar Ramayana. In 1993, he was cast as young Krishna in another Ramanand Sagar show, Krishna. After taking a break from acting, Joshi returned as a youth actor in Sanjeev Bhattacharya’s show Campus. He then appeared in various Hindi TV shows, including Hudd Kar Di, Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand, and Hare Kkaanch Ki Choodiyaan. In 1997, he played Inder in Zee TV’s popular show Amanat and later portrayed Dhruv, a parallel lead in Kehta Hai Dil. In the same year, he made his film debut, playing Vikram Dixit in Ghulam-E-Mustafa.
Joshi continued to build his career with roles in TV shows such as Dr. Prakash in Bhabhi, Arjun in Kadvee Khatee Meethi, and as the host of the kid’s talent show Chota Packet Bada Dhamaka. In 2008, he participated in Sony TV’s show Mr. & Ms. TV, winning the competition alongside actress Purvi Joshi. His first lead role in a Marathi film was in Manini, where he played Deepak Rajyadhakshya. He also acted in the multi-starrer film Checkmate and the comedy film Amhi Satpute as Chingya. He played Yash in the Marathi series Adhuri Ek Kahani and had roles in the comedy show Tere Gharchya Samor and Ardhangini.
In 2010, Joshi starred in the hit romantic film Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai as a boy from Pune, opposite Mukta Barve. Their on-screen chemistry was highly praised. In 2011, he played Yash Kumar in the Hindi film The Life Zindagi. Joshi then focused on comedy, participating in various seasons of Comedy Circus, and eventually winning the eighth season with his partner VIP. He also hosted the comedy show Ladies Special on Zee TV and had roles in Sajan Re Jhoot Mat Bolo and Papad Pol – Shahabuddin Rathod Ki Rangeen Duniya, both paired with Ami Trivedi.
In 2012, Joshi played Sachin in Sab TV’s comedy show Golmaal Hai Bhai Sab Golmaal Hai and hosted the dance reality show Eka Peksha Ek on Zee Marathi. He also appeared in an episodic role in Madhu Ethe Ani Chandra Tithe and judged the comedy reality show Fu Bai Fu. He starred opposite Mukta Barve in the show Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta. Joshi had his own radio show, The Swapnil Joshi Show on Red FM 93.5. In 2013, he played Shreyas Talvalkar opposite Sai Tamhankar in Duniyadari and once again paired with Mukta Barve in Mangalashtak Once More.
In 2014, Joshi appeared opposite Sai Tamhankar in Pyaar Vali Love Story, which was a box office hit. He also hosted the talk show Dhabal-Ek Timepass on Star Pravah. In 2015, he starred in the film Mitwaa alongside Sonalee Kulkarni and Prarthana Behere, which was a major success. His other 2015 releases included Welcome Zindagi opposite Amruta Khanvilkar, Tu Hi Re with Sai Tamhankar and Tejaswini Pandit, and Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 2, the sequel to Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai, opposite Mukta Barve. In 2016, he appeared in Friends opposite Gauri Nalawde and Sachit Patil and starred in Laal Ishq, produced by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Joshi continued to work in films like Fugay with Subodh Bhave, Bhikari directed by Ganesh Acharya, and the third installment of Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai in 2018. He played roles in films like Mi Pan Sachin and Mogra Phulaalaa in 2019, and starred in the film Bali in 2021. His latest film, Vaalvi, was released in 2023.
On television, Joshi’s notable roles include Kush in Uttar Ramayan (1989), Krishna in Krishna (1993), Inder in Amanat (1997-2002), and various roles in comedy shows like Comedy Circus. He hosted shows such as Eka Peksha Ek and judged Fu Bai Fu. In recent years, he appeared in Jeevlaga and hosted No. 1 Yaari. He also starred in the web series Samantar on MX Player, with its second season released in 2021.
In theatre, Joshi performed in Get Well Soon and hosted the radio show Share it with Swwapnil. Throughout his career, he has received several awards, including the Pu La Deshpande Tarunai Sanman and Maharashtra State Film Awards for Best Actor.
