Early Life
Shruti was born on January 28, 1986, in Madras (now Chennai), to well-known actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika Thakur. She comes from a Tamil family, with her father being a Tamilian Brahmin Iyengar and her mother having Marathi and Rajput roots. Her parents tied the knot when she was just one year old but later went through a divorce in 2004. Haasan’s younger sister, Akshara Haasan, is also an actress, and she has an uncle named Charuhasan, who is an actor and lawyer. Additionally, actresses Suhasini Maniratnam and Anu Hasan are her cousins.
For her education, Haasan attended Lady Andal school in Chennai for her schooling and later moved to Mumbai. In Mumbai, she pursued a degree in psychology at St. Andrew’s College. However, her interests were more inclined towards cinema and music. She decided to further her knowledge in music by traveling to the United States and studying at the Musicians Institute in California. After completing her studies abroad, she returned to Chennai.
Career
Haasan started her acting journey with a small role in the movie Hey Ram, directed by her father Kamal Haasan. However, her actual debut got delayed, and she turned down some film offers before finally signing up for Luck in 2008, a Hindi film directed by Soham Shah and starring Imran Khan. Despite working hard and performing in action scenes, the movie received poor reviews, and critics felt she deserved a better start.
Following this, Haasan appeared in promotional videos for movies like Unnaipol Oruvan, Eenadu, and Hisss. Her Telugu debut happened in 2011 with the film Anaganaga O Dheerudu, where she played a gypsy with magical powers. The movie received positive reviews, praising Haasan’s attractive screen presence.
