Career

Shriyam Bhagnani started her career in the film industry by gaining experience in production and editing. She also assisted directors before stepping into acting. Her first appearance on screen was in the film “Baaghi 2” (2018), where she portrayed the character Simi alongside actors Tiger Shroff and Disha Patani.

She then acted in the film “Batti Gul Meter Chalu” (2018). In 2019, she co-wrote and produced the short film “Sunny Se Rubaroo.” Her breakthrough came with the lead role in the film “Sumo Didi” (2023), where she played the role of Hetal Dave, India’s first professional female sumo wrestler.

For her role in “Sumo Didi,” Shriyam underwent a weight transformation and rigorous training to emulate the appearance and skill of Hetal Dave. She trained with celebrity trainer Sahil Rasheed and received sumo training from Hetal Dave herself.

Shriyam made her television debut in the series “City of Dreams – Season 2” (2021) on the OTT platform Disney + Hotstar. She portrayed the character Tanya Mehta opposite actor Ankur Rathee. Her performance earned her a nomination for a Filmfare “Best Supporting Actor” award.

In an interview, Shriyam emphasized her desire to be recognized for her work rather than her family connections in the Bollywood industry. She also revealed her passion for tennis and how she transitioned into acting after participating in a college play. Despite facing challenges on set, Shriyam found solace in the presence of women, highlighting the importance of inclusivity and support in the workplace.
