Early Life

Shriya Saran Bhatnagar was born on 11th September 1982 in Haridwar, Northern India, to parents Pushpendra Saran Bhatnagar and Neeraja Saran Bhatnagar. Her father worked at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, while her mother was a chemistry teacher at Delhi Public School in Haridwar and later in New Delhi.

Growing up in the BHEL colony in Haridwar, Shriya completed her schooling at the schools where her mother taught. She has an elder brother, Abhiroop, who resides in Mumbai. Shriya’s mother tongue is Hindi.

Afterward, she pursued her higher education at Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in literature.

Apart from her academic achievements, Shriya is also a skilled dancer. Her journey in dance began in childhood under her mother’s guidance, learning Kathak and Rajasthani folk dance. Later, she received formal training in Kathak from Shovana Narayan. During her college days, Shriya actively participated in various dance teams, collaborating with her teacher to incorporate social issues into their performances.

Shriya Saran Bhatnagar, born on 11th September 1982 in Haridwar, Northern India, started her career during her second year at LSR College in Delhi. She got her first break in a music video for Renoo Nathan’s “Thirakti Kyun Hawa” based on her dance teacher’s recommendation. This caught the attention of Ramoji Films, leading to her debut in the film “Ishtam” as Neha, followed by four more films.

In 2002, Shriya found success in the Telugu film “Santosham,” winning awards for Best Feature Film. Her career in the Telugu industry took off, with notable films like “Nuvve Nuvve.” She ventured into Hindi cinema in 2003 with “Tujhe Meri Kasam” and made her mark in Tamil with “Enakku 20 Unakku 18.”

From 2004 to 2007, Shriya faced career fluctuations, with hits like “Sivaji: The Boss” in 2007 opposite Rajinikanth. She also made a comeback in Hindi cinema with “Awarapan” and appeared in Tamil film “Azhagiya Tamil Magan.”

Her American cinema debut came in 2008 with “The Other End of the Line,” earning praise for her performance. In 2010, she made her Malayalam debut in “Pokkiri Raja” and returned to Telugu cinema with “Don Seenu.” In 2011, she starred in “Rowthiram,” winning the Best Actress Award at the International Tamil Film Awards. She also appeared in a song for the Tamil film “Rajapattai.”

Saran continued her diverse roles, featuring in the Malayalam film “Casanovva” in 2012. She appeared in the English film “Midnight’s Children” and made her Malayalam debut with “Pokkiri Raja” in 2010. From 2013 onwards, Shriya appeared in various projects, including an item number in the Hindi film “Zila Ghaziabad” and the release of “Pavitra,” where she portrayed a significant role.

Her career saw success with the Telugu film “Manam” in 2014, and she continued to make appearances in films like “Gopala Gopala” and “Drishyam.” Shriya’s recent works include the Telugu epic historical action film “Gautamiputra Satakarni” in 2016.

In 2016, she made a special appearance in the Telugu film “Oopiri” and its Tamil version “Thozha.” The following year, she played the role of Vashishtha Devi in the Telugu film “Gautamiputra Satakarni” and portrayed Selvi in the Tamil film “Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan.” Shriya also made special appearances in the Telugu films “Nakshathram” and “Paisa Vasool.”

In 2018, she appeared in multiple films, including “Gayatri” as Shaarada, the Hindi film “Phamous” as Lalli, and the Telugu film “Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu” as Neelima. In 2019, Shriya made a special appearance in the song “Chitram Bhale Vichitram” in the Telugu film “NTR: Kathanayakudu.”

Continuing her special appearances, Shriya featured in the Hindi film “Sab Kushal Mangal” in 2020, contributing to the song “Naya Naya Love.” In 2021, she played the role of Kamala in the Telugu film “Gamanam.” The actress continued her journey in the entertainment industry with significant projects in 2022, including “RRR,” where she portrayed Alluri Sarojini, and the Hindi film “Tadka” as Madhura. Shriya’s diverse roles extended into 2023 with the Kannada film “Kabzaa,” where she played Madhumathi Bahaddur, and the Hindi bilingual film “Music School” as Maria D’Cruz.

In 2024, she was last seen in Show Time alongside Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Mouni Roy, Mahima Makwana & Rajeev Khandelwal.
