Sharman Joshi is a versatile artist known for his contributions to theater, film, and television. He has acted, produced, and directed stage plays in various languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati.
In theater, Joshi showcased his talent by directing and starring in numerous performances. He gained recognition for his portrayal of a deaf character in the Gujarati version of the play “All the Best,” which enjoyed a successful run of over 550 shows. Another notable play he starred in was “Ame Layi Gaya, Tame Rahi Gaya,” where he adeptly portrayed four different roles.
Transitioning to the silver screen, Joshi made his film debut in the 1999 art film “Godmother.” He then appeared in comedies like “Style” (2001), its sequel “Xcuse Me” (2003), and “Shaadi No. 1” (2005). His notable roles include appearances in acclaimed films such as “Rang De Basanti” (2006), “Life in a… Metro,” “Dhol,” and “Raqeeb” (all in 2007).
In 2008, Joshi played a significant role in “Hello,” the film adaptation of Chetan Bhagat’s novel “One Night @ the Call Center.” He also starred in “Sorry Bhai!” and gained widespread recognition for his role as Raju Rastogi in the blockbuster hit “3 Idiots” (2009), based on Bhagat’s novel “Five Point Someone.”
Joshi continued to showcase his acting prowess in films like “Ferrari ki Sawaari” (2012) and “Wajah Tum Ho.” He played lead roles in “Kaashi in Search of Ganga” (2018) and “3 Storeys.” In 2019, he made his digital debut with the web series “Baarish,” produced by Balaji Telefilms, where he starred opposite Asha Negi.
Apart from his work in theater and cinema, Joshi ventured into television as well. In 2009, he hosted a game show called “PokerFace: Dil Sachcha Chehra Jhootha” on Real T.V., based on a British game show. He has also been honored with life membership in the International Film and Television Club of the Asian Academy of Film & Television.
Throughout his career, Joshi has expressed his willingness to break away from being typecast and has spoken about it at various platforms, including a TEDx conference in Mumbai in January 2017.
