Early Life

Roy was born on 11 October 1965 in Nagpur, Maharashtra, to Brotin Bose Roy and Dolly Roy. He’s the oldest in the family, and his younger brother, Rohit Roy, is also a TV actor. Roy grew up in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and went to Ankur School for his early education.

After finishing school, Ronit studied hotel management. Once done, he moved to Mumbai and stayed with filmmaker Subhash Ghai. Despite his interest in the film industry, Ghai advised him against it, citing the challenges. Ronit took up a management trainee role at Mumbai’s Sea Rock Hotel. His work there included various tasks like dishwashing, cleaning, serving tables, and even bar-tending, giving him a well-rounded experience at different levels.

Career

Ronit Roy stepped into the world of Hindi movies with “Jaan Tere Naam” in 1992, marking a successful start to his film career. The movie, where he starred alongside Aditya Pancholi and Kishori Shahane, became a hit, boosting his early career. Following this, he appeared in “Bomb Blast” (1993), another commercially successful venture alongside Pancholi and Shahane.

After gaining recognition on television, Ronit Roy took on supporting roles in various Hindi films. In 2010, he received acclaim for his performance in the highly praised movie “Udaan,” earning him accolades and a spot on Film Companion’s list of the top 100 performances of the decade.

“Udaan” reignited Roy’s presence in the film industry. He continued to feature in films like “That Girl in Yellow Boots,” “Student of the Year,” “Midnight’s Children,” “Shootout at Wadala,” and “Ugly.” His notable roles include the antagonist in “BOSS” (2013) opposite Akshay Kumar and a well-received performance in “2 States” (2014). In 2017, he played the antagonist in “Kaabil” alongside Hrithik Roshan and made his Telugu debut with “Jai Lava Kusa.”

Roy also appeared in films like “Machine” (2017), “Lucknow Central” (2017), “Loveyatri” (2018), and the romantic sports film “Liger” (2024). In his television career, Roy got his start with Balaji Telefilms’ “Kammal” and went on to portray significant characters in shows like “Kasautii Zindagii Kay,” “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” and “Bandini” (2009-2011).
