Early Life
Archana Puran Singh was born on September 26, 1962, in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, India. She attended a Convent School in Dehradun and later earned a degree in English literature from the University of Delhi. Growing up, Archana had two brothers, and one of them is named Sandeep Singh.
She got married to actor and director Parmeet Sethi on June 30, 1992. The couple is blessed with two sons, Aaryamann and Ayushmaan. Before her marriage to Parmeet, Archana experienced a previous marriage that unfortunately ended in divorce. Afterward, she was romantically involved with Bollywood Director Pankaj Parashar, who also directed her debut movie, JALWA.
Career
She started her journey in films with Nari Hira’s TV movie Abhishek in 1987, starring alongside Aditya Pancholi. In the same year, she played a role in Jalwa alongside Naseeruddin Shah. Following this, she took on smaller roles in prominent films like Agneepath (1990), Saudagar (1991), Shola aur Shabnam (1992), Aashiq Awara (1993), and Raja Hindustani (1996). She also featured in item songs in movies such as Baaz with Govinda and Judge Mujrim with Suniel Shetty.
Afterward, she shifted her focus to supporting roles, often in comedies, in Hindi films. Some of her notable films include Love Story 2050, Mohabbatein, Krrish, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Masti, De Dana Dan, and Bol Bachchan.
In the realm of television, she began her journey as a host with shows like Wah, Kya Scene Hai and Uncensored on Zee TV in 1993. She later ventured into acting with shows like Shrimaan Shrimati, Junoon, and hosting Archana Talkies on Sony Entertainment Television. Additionally, she acted in the TV show Zee Horror Show.
Beyond acting, she tried her hand at directing sitcoms like Jaane Bhi Do Paaro and Nehle Pe Dehla, and produced Samne Wali Khidki. In 2005, she took part in the dance reality show Nach Baliye 1 with her husband, Parmeet Sethi. In 2006, they hosted another dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa (season 1).
Later on, she became a judge on comedy shows, including Sony Entertainment Television’s Comedy Circus. In 2015, she appeared in SAB TV’s The Great Indian Family Drama as Begum Paro.
In 2019, she joined as a judge on The Kapil Sharma Show. During the same year, she played the role of Lakhan’s mother, Paramjeet, in the SAB TV serial My Name Ijj Lakhan, opposite her real-life husband, Parmeet Sethi.
