Priyamani started her acting journey with the Telugu film “Evare Atagaadu” in 2003. She became well-known for her role as a village girl in the Tamil movie “Paruthiveeran” in 2007.
This performance earned her a National Film Award for Best Actress and a Filmfare Award for Best Actress in Tamil. Some of her other notable films include “Raam” (2009), “Raavan” (2010), “Raavanan” (2010), “Pranchiyettan & the Saint” (2010), “Chaarulatha” (2012), and “Idolle Ramayana” (2016). Career
Priyamani hails from Bangalore, Karnataka, and was brought up in a Palakkad Iyer family. Her father, Vasudevan Mani Iyer, is in the plantation business, and her mother, Lathamani Iyer, used to be a bank manager at Union Bank of India and was also a national-level badminton player. During her school days, Priyamani did modeling for brands like Kanchipuram Silk, Erode Bharani Silks, and Lakshmi Silks.
In the 12th Standard, Tamil director Bharathiraja introduced Priyamani to the film industry. Even while attending school, she actively took part in extracurricular activities and sports. She is the granddaughter of Carnatic vocalist Kamala Kailas, and she has notable relatives in the film industry, being the cousin of actress Vidya Balan and the niece of playback singer Malgudi Shubha.
After finishing her school education, Priyamani ventured into print advertisements modeling. Later, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology through correspondence. Priyamani is proficient in English, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Telugu, and Hindi. Director Fazil initially offered her a film role, but she declined the opportunity before her board examinations. Eventually, she made her debut in the film industry with a Tamil movie.
