Career
Patil Babbar began his career by assisting advertisement filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar for a year as a production assistant. During this time, he also landed roles in advertisement films for various companies, including KitKat.
His acting debut came in the Aamir Khan production, “Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na,” where he portrayed the attention-seeking brother of Genelia’s character. This role earned him critical acclaim and several awards, including a Special Jury certificate at the 54th Filmfare Awards.
In 2011, he appeared in several films, starting with Kiran Rao’s “Dhobi Ghaat,” which received positive reviews at film festivals. He also starred in “Dum Maro Dum,” “Aarakshan,” and “My Friend Pinto.” However, his subsequent films, “Ekk Deewana Tha” and “Issaq,” did not perform well at the box office.
After overcoming substance abuse, he attended acting school and made a comeback with the comedy-drama “Umrika,” which premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. In 2017, he starred in a video titled “#DilSeAzaad,” which addressed the stigmas surrounding addiction.
In 2018, he returned to the big screen with “Baaghi 2,” playing an antagonist for the first time. He also appeared in “Mulk” and “Mitron.” In 2019, he starred in the comedy-drama “Chhichhore” and the Tamil action thriller “Darbar,” both of which were commercially successful.
In subsequent years, he appeared in several films, including “Darbar” in 2020, “The Power,” “Mumbai Saga,” “Bachchhan Paandey,” and “India Lockdown” in 2021, and “Cobalt Blue” in 2022.
