As a child, Padmini Kolhapure sang in the chorus for songs in films such as “Yaadon Ki Baaraat,” “Kitaab,” and “Dushman Dost” alongside her sister Shivangi. Later, she sang for her own films like “Vidhaata,” “Daana Pani,” “Professor Ki Padosan,” “Hum Intezaar Karenge,” and “Sadak Chhap” with Kishore Kumar. She released an album titled “Music Lovers” with Bappi Lahiri and performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London with Bappi Lahiri and his troupe in 1986.

Asha Bhosle recommended Padmini’s name to Dev Anand, who cast her in “Ishk Ishk Ishk” (1975). After 2010, she mostly played supporting roles, often portraying a mother. In 2011, she entered Malayalam cinema with V. K. Prakash’s “Karmayogi,” an adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” In 2013, she played Shahid Kapoor’s mother in “Phata Poster Nikla Hero” and portrayed Gopikabai in “Panipat” (2019). She received praise for her role in the 2020 Marathi film “Prawaas.”
