In 1996, Payal made her television debut with the thriller show “Agwaah,” acting alongside Tom Alter and Vishal Thakkar. Following this, in 1998, she appeared in two episodes of the police procedural TV series “C.I.D.” as Kuber’s Wife. Her roles diversified in subsequent years, with appearances in shows like “Dial 100” (2001), “Ssshhhh… Koi Hai” (2002), and her first lead role in “Goonj Ateet Ki” (2002) as Dr. Revathi.
By 2004, Payal gained recognition for her portrayal of the titular character in DD National’s soap opera “Meher,” where she also played the double role of Meher and Shabana. She continued to impress audiences with varied roles, including a negative character in “Saat Phere: Saloni Ka Safar” (2005) and multiple roles in Star Plus’ “Bhabhi” (2005-2007).
Her television journey continued with roles in “Parrivaar” (2007), “Chhoona Hai Aasmaan” (2007-2008), and “Do Saheliyaan… Kismat Ki Kathputliyaan” (2010). Notably, she gained popularity in 2010 for her negative role in “Chand Chupa Badal Mein” on Star Plus. Moving beyond traditional media, Payal ventured into films, making her debut with the Hindi survival thriller “Jungle” (2000). She continued to feature in films like “Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar!!” (2000), “Sorry Bhai” (2008), “Kuch Tum Kaho Kuch Hum Kahein” (2002), and “Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai” (2010). Notably, in 2020, she portrayed Shiraz Jamshedji in the biographical drama film “Chhapaak.” Her most recent film role was as Indira Gandhi in the biographical film “Main Atal Hoon” (2024).
