Career
From 1999 to 2007, Mukta Barve started her acting career with her first role in the play “Ghar Tighancha Hava” shortly after completing school. After moving to Mumbai, she landed her first commercial play, “Suyog’s Aamhala Vegle Vhayache” in 2001.
Her debut in Marathi television came in 1998 with the TV series “Ghadlay Bighadlay,” where she played the character Champa in a rural style. She later took on small roles in TV series such as “Pimpalpan,” “Bandhan,” “Buwa Aala,” “Chitta Chor,” “Me Ek Bandu,” “Abhalmaya,” “Shriyut Gangadhar Tipre,” and “Indradhanush.”
In 2004, Mukta debuted in the Marathi film industry with “Chakwa,” earning the Maharashtra State Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer of the Year. In 2005, she had a cameo in Amol Palekar’s bilingual film “Thang” and also worked in the commercial plays “Dehbhaan” and “Final Draft.”
For her role in “Dehbhaan,” she received the Most Promising Newcomer of the Year award at the Alpha Gaurav Puraskar 2003, and for “Final Draft,” she won the Best Supporting Actress award at the Alpha Gaurav Puraskar 2005, and Best Actress in the Experimental Theatre category at Alpha Gaurav Puraskar 2005, Maharashtra Times Awards 2006, and Zee Gaurav Puraskar 2008.
Mukta appeared in cameo roles in the films “Shevri,” “Blind Game,” and “Maati Maay” in 2006. She starred in the Marathi TV series “Agnishikha,” playing the title role and performed in the commercial play “Hum To Tere Aashiq Hain,” portraying a Muslim girl named Ruksana Saahil who marries a Hindu man. For this role, she received the Maharashtra State Film Award for Best Actress in a Commercial Play.
In 2007, she starred in “Sawar Re” as Mukta and played a role in Jitendra Patil’s debut play “Kabaddi Kabaddi,” about a girl aspiring to be a Kabaddi champion. For this performance, she won the Best Actress in a Commercial Play award at the Zee Gaurav Puraskar, Maharashtra Times Awards, and Maharashtra State Film Awards.
From 2008 to 2011, Mukta made a special appearance in “De Dhakka” and played a cameo in the Hindi film “Saas Bahu Aur Sensex” in 2008. She appeared in Ashok Saraf’s “Ek Daav Dhobi Pachhad” (2009) and Gajendra Ahire’s “Sumbaran” (2009).
Her significant role in the National Award-winning film “Jogwa” (2009) as Suli, a Jogtin, earned her the Best Actress awards at the Maharashtra State Film Awards (2009) and Marathi International Film and Theatre Awards (2010). She also appeared in “Thanks Maa” (2010), “Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai” (2010), “Agnihotra” (2010), “Aika Dajiba” (2010), “Aaghaat” (2010), and “Lajja” (2010). In 2011, she was honored with the Tarunai Sanmaan Award at the Raja Paranjape Film Festival and featured in the Marathi show “Madhu Ethe Ani Chandra Tithe.”
From 2012 to 2014, Mukta starred in the TV show “Eka Lagnachi Dusri Goshta” (2012) as Radha Desai and in the film “Badam Rani Gulam Chor.” She also appeared in the film “Gola Berij” and visited Toronto for her play “Final Draft.” In 2013, she produced and starred in the commercial play “Chhapa Kata,” winning awards at the Deenanath Mangeshkar Awards and Sanskruti Kaladarpan Awards. She acted in the film “Lagna Pahave Karun” (2013) and “Mangalashtak Once More” (2013). In 2014, she appeared in the Konkani film “Gunaaji” and the short film “Shot.”
From 2015 onward, Mukta starred opposite Ankush Choudhary in “Double Seat” (2015), earning multiple Best Actress awards. She also appeared in “Highway,” “Lovebirds,” and “Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 2” (2015). In 2016, she was honored with the Lokmat Maharashtrian of the Year Award in the Theatre category and the Chaturastra Abhinetri Award at Nilu Phule Sanman. She starred in “Ganvesh” and produced the play “Codemantra.”
Mukta appeared in “YZ” (2016) and received the Tarunai Sanman Puraskar at Pulotsav 2016. In 2017, she produced “Sakharam Binder” and acted in Vikram Phadnis’ “Hrudayantar.” She also began featuring in the TV show “Rudram” (2017) and acted in “Aamhi Doghi” (2018), earning praise for her performance.
In 2018, she starred in “Mumbai-Pune-Mumbai 3” and, in 2019, appeared in “Wedding Cha Shinema,” “Bandishala,” and “Smile Please,” receiving acclaim for her performances. Mukta also starred in the short film “Devi” in 2020 and appeared in the Marathi films “Y” and “Aapdi Thaapdi” in 2022, continuing to establish her versatility and talent in the industry.
