Mouni Roy was born on September 28, 1985, in Cooch Behar, West Bengal, India. She comes from a Rajbongshi Hindu Family. Her dad, Anil Roy, worked as an office superintendent at the Cooch Behar Zilla Parishad, while her mom, Mukti Roy, was a theater artist.

She finished her schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya in Baburhat, Cooch Behar. Later, she moved to Delhi and completed her English Honours degree from the University of Delhi. After that, she went to Jamia Milia Islamia as per her parents’ wish but left the course halfway. She then decided to try her luck in Bollywood and moved to Mumbai.

Mouni always dreamt of becoming an actor since her teenage years. Now, her passion has become one of her main sources of income. Her acting idols include Madhubala, Madhuri Dixit, and Waheeda Rehman.

Mouni Roy kicked off her career in 2006 with the TV drama “Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi,” directed by the renowned Ekta Kapoor.
