Early Life
Abhishek Sharma, born on 30 May 1983 in Mumbai, has a unique family background. His father, Atmaprakash Sharma, hails from Himachal Pradesh, while his mother, of Punjabi descent, is closely related to the renowned actor Govinda. His maternal grandfather was Arun Kumar Ahuja, a Hindi film actor from the 1940s–1950s, and his maternal grandmother was the accomplished singer Nirmala Devi. Interestingly, Abhishek Sharma’s name was chosen by his mother, inspired by her favorite actor Amitabh Bachchan’s son, Abhishek Bachchan.
Career
He began his journey in Hindi cinema with “Yeh Kaisi Mohabbat Hai” in 2002. Some of his notable films include “Hum Tum Aur Mother” in 2005, “Jahan Jaaeyega Hamen Paaeyega” (2007), and “Aur Pappu Pass Ho Gaya” in the same year. Afterward, he transitioned to Bhojpuri films. In 2007, he took on the lead role in the TV series “Sautela,” which aired on Doordarshan.
He showcased his comedic talents in various seasons of the stand-up comedy show, “Comedy Circus,” including “Comedy Circus 2” (2008) and “Comedy Circus 3” (2009), where he entered as a wild card contestant. He also engaged in celebrity couple dance-reality shows like “Nach Baliye” (Season 3) (2007) and “Kabhi Kabhii Pyaar Kabhi Kabhii Yaar” (2008), winning the latter alongside Kashmera Shah. Additionally, he appeared in “Jalwa Four 2 Ka 1” (2008) and served as a judge on the reality dance show “Krazzy Kiya Re” on DD National, alongside Sudha Chandran.
As a celebrity couple, he and Kashmera Shah participated in the reality show “Love Lock Up” on UTV Bindass in February 2011, where actress Priyanka Chopra played the role of a peacemaker.
In 2016, he took on the hosting duties for “Comedy Nights Live” on Colors TV, a show produced by Vipul D. Shah. It took over the spot of the declining “Comedy Nights with Kapil” (2013–16) by Kapil Sharma. Later, when “Comedy Nights Bachao” (2015–17) replaced the show, he hosted and performed comedy on it as well.
By July 2017, he had signed up for Sony TV’s “The Drama Company,” a show produced by Kapil Sharma’s former longtime girlfriend Preeti Simoes and her sister Neeti Simoes.
In 2018, he became a part of the second season of “The Kapil Sharma Show” alongside Sudesh Lehri. The first season had to be halted due to Kapil Sharma’s health issues and disputes with supporting actors.
In 2020, he starred in his new show, “Funhit Mein Jaari,” alongside Bharti Singh and others. In 2022, he launched the latest season of his Infotainment show on History TV18, titled ‘OMG! Ye Mera India’. As of 2021, he has successfully hosted seven seasons of this show.
