Kasthuri, an alumna of Ethiraj College for Women, began her journey in the spotlight during her college years when she pursued modeling out of interest. In 1992, she won both the Miss Chennai title and the Femina Miss Madras beauty pageant. Her modeling career flourished, and she also became a finalist in the BBC’s Mastermind India 2000 quiz.

Kasthuri’s acting career started in 1991 with the film “Aatha Un Koyilile.” Initially, she worked in small-budget Tamil films but soon transitioned to mainstream cinema. She shared the screen with renowned actors like Kamal Haasan in the movie “Indian” (1996). Her talent was further recognized in the films “Annamayya” (1997) and “Kaadhal Kavithai” (1998), where her acting and dance performances garnered attention.

A 30-minute documentary titled “Kasthuri: A South Indian Film Star” was released to celebrate her achievements in the film industry. Despite her success, Kasthuri decided to take a break from acting and later made a comeback as a supporting actress and television host. Her return to the silver screen was marked by the film “Malai Malai” (2009). She also appeared in the television series “Vina Vidai Vettai” (2013-2014) on Puthuyugam TV.

In 2017, Kasthuri played a significant supporting role as an investigative agent in Adhik Ravichandran’s “Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan,” where she acted alongside Silambarasan.
