Career
Karan began his journey in the film industry at just 17. He started as a production assistant, working on showreels for Television Commercial Directors. By the time he turned 24, he had already produced more than 500 television commercials, filming across the globe.
At 24, Karan decided to pursue further studies and applied to Bond University in Australia. He secured a full scholarship and embarked on a master’s degree program in Film and TV. During this time, his short film ‘La fourchette’ premiered at the NY Short Film Festival and was a runner-up in the competition.
Karan’s debut feature-length documentary, “That Healing Feeling,” received recognition as it was screened at prestigious events like the Sheffield DocFest and Hot Docs. By the age of 27, he became the youngest board member of the Indian Documentary Producers Association.
In 2016, Karan landed a significant opportunity – directing one of the Indian adaptations of the acclaimed American TV show “24,” starring Anil Kapoor. The show enjoyed success, running for two seasons comprising 48 episodes.
Two years later, in 2018, Karan directed and executive produced a Netflix series called “Selection Day,” based on the book of the same name by Booker Prize-winning author Arvind Adiga. The show was among the first Netflix originals in India and received significant critical acclaim.
Karan’s debut feature film, ‘Thank You For Coming,’ made it to the Official Selection at the Toronto Film Festival 2023. It premiered worldwide on October 6th and garnered praise as one of the most highly-rated films of the year.
