Career
In 1988, Bharti was set to make her screen debut in the film “Gunahon Ka Devta” but was replaced by Sangeeta Bijlani. However, her breakthrough came when Telugu film producer D. Ramanaidu offered her a leading role in “Bobbili Raja” opposite Daggubati Venkatesh. The film, released in 1990, was a hit and established Bharti’s popularity in the Telugu film industry. Following this success, she appeared in the Tamil film “Nila Pennae” later that year, but it did not fare well.
In 1991, Bharti garnered further acclaim with back-to-back hits in the Telugu industry, starring in “Rowdy Alludu” and “Assembly Rowdy” alongside top actors Chiranjeevi and Mohan Babu, respectively. She then began filming “Dharma Kshetram” with Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna.
Transitioning to Hindi cinema, Bharti made her debut in Rajiv Rai’s “Vishwatma” in 1992, followed by Lawrence D’Souza’s “Dil Ka Kya Kasoor.” Despite mixed success, these films garnered her wider recognition.
In the same year, Bharti’s breakthrough in Bollywood came with David Dhawan’s “Shola Aur Shabnam” and Raj Kanwar’s “Deewana,” where she starred alongside Rishi Kapoor and Shahrukh Khan. Her performance in “Deewana” earned her the Filmfare Award for Lux New Face of the Year.
Throughout 1992 and early 1993, Bharti appeared in several Hindi films, including “Jaan Se Pyaara,” “Geet,” “Dushman Zamana,” “Balwaan,” and “Dil Aashna Hai.” Her versatility and talent were praised by critics, establishing her as a rising star in the industry.
In her last film released during her lifetime, “Kshatriya,” Bharti starred alongside Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt, and Raveena Tandon. Tragically, she passed away before completing several projects, including “Mohra,” “Kartavya,” “Vijaypath,” “Dilwale,” and “Andolan.”
Posthumously, her completed films “Rang” and “Shatranj” were released to moderate success. Additionally, her incomplete Telugu film “Tholi Muddhu” was finished with a body double and released in October 1993.
