Perri moved to Los Angeles on her 21st birthday, feeling overwhelmed by the distance from her family. Struggling with homesickness, she cried daily. Later that year, she married but divorced 18 months later. Determined to pursue music, she moved into a small apartment and focused on her craft. By the end of 2009, Perri returned to Philadelphia, where she wrote “Jar of Hearts.” After moving back to Los Angeles, she balanced waitressing at the Melrose Cafe during the day with recording at night.

In 2010, her song “Jar of Hearts” gained attention when featured on “So You Think You Can Dance.” It sold over 48,000 digital copies in its first week and debuted on the Billboard Hot 100. Signing with Atlantic Records, she released an EP titled “The Ocean Way Sessions” and her debut album “Lovestrong” in 2011, which debuted at number 4 on the Billboard 200.

Tragically, Perri’s daughter Rosie was stillborn, leading her to release the album “Songs for Rosie” in 2021 on the first anniversary of Rosie’s passing. In 2022, Perri released the single “Evergone” from her third studio album, “A Lighter Shade of Blue,” which was released later that year.
