In September 2009, Charlie Puth launched his YouTube channel, Charlies Vlogs, where he posted comedy videos and acoustic covers. The following year, he released the music video for his first song, “These Are My Sexy Shades.” In December 2010, Puth independently released his debut extended play, The Otto Tunes.

In 2011, Puth won an online video competition sponsored by Perez Hilton called Can You Sing? with a version of Adele’s “Someone like You,” performed with Emily Luther.
