Career
Ayushmann Khurrana began his career in the entertainment industry after completing his graduation and post-graduation in Journalism. He started as a radio personality at BIG FM in Delhi, where he hosted the show Big Chai – Maan Na Maan, Main Tera Ayushmann, earning the Young Achievers Award in 2007.
Moving to television, Khurrana appeared in several MTV shows like MTV Fully Faltoo Movies, Cheque De India, and Jaadoo Ek Baar. He then ventured into hosting with shows like India’s Got Talent on Colors TV and Stripped on MTV, along with anchoring other programs like MTV Rock On and Extra Innings T20 for Indian Premier League Season 3 on SET Max.
In 2012, Khurrana made his acting debut with Shoojit Sircar’s Vicky Donor, where he played the role of a sperm donor. The film was a commercial success, earning him critical acclaim and awards for Best Male Debut and Best Male Playback Singer at the Filmfare Awards.
He followed this with roles in films like Nautanki Saala! (2013) and Bewakoofiyaan (2014), which did not fare well at the box office. However, his performance in Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) opposite Bhumi Pednekar was praised, and the film became a commercial success.
In 2018, Khurrana delivered back-to-back hits with Andhadhun and Badhaai Ho, both of which won National Film Awards. Andhadhun, in particular, was a significant success, becoming one of Indian cinema’s highest-grossing films. His subsequent releases like Article 15, Dream Girl, and Bala in 2019 also performed well at the box office, earning him critical acclaim and awards.
In 2020, Khurrana starred in Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan, a film about a gay relationship, which was praised for its portrayal of LGBTQ+ characters. He then appeared in Gulabo Sitabo alongside Amitabh Bachchan, which premiered directly on Amazon Prime Video due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In 2021, Khurrana starred in Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, playing a bodybuilder who falls in love with a trans woman. He continued his collaboration with Anubhav Sinha in the film Anek in 2022. However, despite positive reviews, his films Doctor G and An Action Hero did not perform well at the box office. In 2023, Khurrana’s film Dream Girl 2 marked his commercial resurgence, becoming his biggest box-office hit since Bala in 2019.
