Career
Shetty began her acting journey in 2015 with her debut in the romantic action film “Hero”, directed by Nikhil Advani. The film, a remake of Subhash Ghai’s classic, marked her entry into Bollywood. Portraying the character of Radha Mathur, an aspiring dancer from Mumbai, she garnered attention for her performance opposite Sooraj Pancholi.
Following her debut, Shetty received a Filmfare award nomination for Best Female Debut. Despite some criticism regarding her acting skills, she quickly gained prominence, becoming the brand ambassador for Maybelline New York’s Indian franchise. She also graced the covers of esteemed magazines like Cosmopolitan, Verve, and Harper’s Bazaar.
After a two-year hiatus, Shetty returned to the big screen with Anees Bazmee’s romantic comedy “Mubarakan” in 2017. In the film, shot in Punjab and London, she portrayed Binkle Sandhu, a Punjabi girl entangled in a comedic love triangle. Despite mixed reviews for both the film and her performance, it fared reasonably well at the box office.
In 2018, she made a special appearance in the song “Tere Naal Nachna” from the film “Nawabzaade”. The song, composed and sung by Badshah, showcased her dancing skills. Moving forward, Shetty starred in Debamitra Biswal’s comedy drama “Motichoor Chaknachoor” in 2019. In the film, she played Anita “Ani” Awasthi, a young woman eager to marry an NRI and settle abroad. Although the film received mixed reviews, Shetty’s performance was noted.
Currently, she is slated to appear in the biopic film “Hope Solo”, based on the life of footballer Afshan Ashiq. Shetty will portray the titular role in the film, which is anticipated to showcase her versatility as an actress.
