Career

In 2002, Anjali was set to make her debut in director Kalanjiyam’s film “Sathamintri Muthamidu,” but the project didn’t materialize. She also had commitments for two other films with the same director, “Valiba Desam” and “En Kanavu Thaanadi,” which also didn’t take off. However, during a modeling assignment, she caught the eye of director Siva Nageswara Rao, who offered her a role in the Telugu thriller “Photo” (2006), where she played a ghost seeking revenge.

Her Tamil debut came in 2007 with “Kattradhu Thamizh,” directed by Ram, where she received critical acclaim for her role as Anandhi, earning her the Vijay Award for Best Debut Actress. Despite the praise, the film wasn’t a commercial success.

In 2010, she gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Kani in the Tamil film “Angadi Theru,” directed by Vasanthabalan. Her performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Tamil. She followed this with roles in “Rettaisuzhi” and “Magizhchi,” although both films didn’t fare well at the box office.

The year 2011 saw Anjali’s debut in Malayalam cinema with the film “Payyans.” She also appeared in “Thoonga Nagaram” and made a cameo in the Tamil film “Ko.” Additionally, she starred in “Karungali,” a project revived from earlier commitments.

In 2012, Anjali starred in “Kalakalappu,” directed by Sundar C, marking her only leading role of the year. Despite a positive response to her performance, the film’s overall success was modest.

In 2013, she appeared in the Telugu multi-starrer “Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu” and AR Murugadoss’ production “Vathikuchi.” While the former was a commercial success, the latter received mixed reviews.

Anjali continued to work in various Tamil and Telugu films over the following years, including “Settai,” “Balupu,” and “Masala.” In 2014, she starred in the horror comedy “Geethanjali,” which earned her critical acclaim and awards.

In 2015, Anjali returned to Kannada cinema with “Rana Vikrama” and appeared in Tamil and Telugu films like “Sakalakala Vallavan” and “Sankarabharanam.” She continued to work in both industries, with notable roles in films like “Iraivi” (2016) and “Vakeel Saab” (2021).

Despite facing setbacks with some films, Anjali’s career saw a resurgence with successes like “Vakeel Saab.” She also ventured into web series with “Paava Kadhaigal” (2020), showcasing her versatility as an actor.
