Born in Mumbai, Adah Sharma’s father, S. L. Sharma, served as a captain in the Indian Merchant Navy until his passing in 2014. Her mother, Sheila Sharma, is an Indian classical dancer and practices mallakhamba yoga.

An alumna of Auxilium Convent High School in Bandra, Sharma discovered her passion for acting in the tenth grade. Although she wished to pursue acting immediately, her parents insisted she complete her schooling. After finishing twelfth grade, she chose not to pursue further education.

Apart from acting, Sharma is a skilled gymnast and has been dancing since the age of three. She holds a graduation degree in Kathak from the Natraj Gopi Krishna Kathak Dance Academy in Mumbai. Additionally, she learned salsa, jazz, ballet, and belly dancing during a four-month stint in the United States. She is also proficient in Silambam, an Indian weapon-based martial art.

Career

Adah Sharma embarked on her journey in the film industry with numerous auditions, facing rejections due to her curly hair or perceived youthfulness. However, her breakthrough came in the 2009 Hindi horror film “1920,” where she played the lead female role opposite Rajneesh Duggal, earning critical acclaim for her portrayal of a possessed woman. The film was a commercial success, marking director Vikram Bhatt’s return to box office hits.

Despite the success of “1920,” Adah Sharma’s subsequent film, “Phhir,” a horror flick released three years later, received negative reviews and failed at the box office. Her third film, the romantic comedy “Hum Hai Raahi Car Ke,” released two years afterward, was both a critical and financial disappointment.

In 2014, Adah had two releases: the Telugu romance “Heart Attack” and the Hindi film “Hasee Toh Phasee” in a supporting role. Both films were commercially successful, with “Hasee Toh Phasee” becoming one of the highest-grossing Hindi films of 2014.
