Career

Soni Razdan embarked on her acting career in English theater with a performance in John Fowles’ “The Collector.” She then transitioned to Hindi stage with “Bund Darvaze,” an adaptation of Jean Paul Sartre’s “No Exit” by Satyadev Dubey.

Her journey into television began when Franco Zeffirelli noticed her photos and considered her for the role of Mary in his miniseries, “Jesus of Nazareth.” Although the part went to Olivia Hussey, Razdan secured a role as a young grieving mother and also appeared as an extra in other scenes.

She gained recognition for her portrayal of Sulochana in the Doordarshan TV series “Buniyaad” and continued to act in Indian TV serials such as “Saahil” and “Gaatha.”

In 2002, she ventured into direction with “Aur Phir Ek Din” on Star Plus, inspired by the film “One Fine Day” starring Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney.

Razdan also made appearances in Bollywood films, including a notable role in Meghna Gulzar’s “Raazi,” alongside her daughter Alia who played the lead role. This marked the first time they shared the screen together, with Razdan portraying Alia’s mother.
