Career

Before Bhasker began her film career, she was associated with N. K. Sharma’s “Act One” theater group in Delhi. She shifted to Mumbai in 2008 and made her acting debut in 2009 with the film “Madholal Keep Walking,” which premiered at the 33rd Cairo International Film Festival but did not perform well at the box office in India. Following this, she played a supporting role in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s drama “Guzaarish” (2010), alongside Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai.

In 2011, Bhasker gained recognition with a supporting role in the commercially successful romantic comedy-drama “Tanu Weds Manu,” where she portrayed Payal, the best friend of the lead actress Kangana Ranaut. Her performance earned her praise and her first nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She then played the lead role in “Listen… Amaya” (2013), which received positive reviews. The same year, she appeared in “Raanjhanaa” alongside Dhanush and Sonam Kapoor, earning her second Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination. Additionally, she starred in “Sabki Bajegi Band” and “Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai.”

In 2015, Bhasker reprised her role in the romantic comedy-drama sequel “Tanu Weds Manu Returns,” which was both critically acclaimed and a commercial success. She also appeared in the romantic family drama “Prem Ratan Dhan Payo” and the collaborative bilingual film “X: Past Is Present.” In 2016, she played the lead in “Nil Battey Sannata,” receiving critical acclaim for her performance. She also ventured into web series with “It’s Not That Simple.”

Bhasker starred in Shashanka Ghosh’s 2018 romantic comedy film “Veere Di Wedding,” which also featured Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, and Shikha Talsania. Her performance, including a notable scene involving a vibrator, earned her a third Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress nomination. In 2019, Bhasker appeared in the female buddy film “Jahaan Chaar Yaar,” which was not well-received at the box office.
