Career

Sulekha Talwalkar began her acting career while studying at Ramnarain Ruia College in Matunga, Mumbai. She was involved with the theatre group Natyawalay, where she acted in her first commercial play, “Saatchya Aat Gharat.” A film with the same name and storyline was later produced in 2004. Her first television appearance was in the show “Teri Bhi Chup Meri Bhi Chup,” which aired on Zee TV. She subsequently acted in various Hindi TV shows produced by Adhikari Brothers. In 1995, she played the role of Shefali Jadhav in the Marathi film “Aai,” directed by Mahesh Manjrekar.

Throughout her career, Sulekha Talwalkar has taken on various supporting roles in popular Marathi television shows such as “Avantika,” “Asambhav,” “Kunku,” “Shejari Shejari Pakke Shejari,” and “Majha Hoshil Na,” all aired on Zee Marathi. In 2007, she appeared in the film “Chandrakant Kulkarni.” Her 2008 film “Tuzya Mazyat” was loosely based on the 1998 English film “Stepmom.” In this film, she played the second wife of Shashank (portrayed by Sachin Khedekar), who was previously married to Asmita (played by Mrinal Kulkarni) and had two children.

In 2009, Sulekha played the lead role in the film “Tinhisaanja,” which explored themes of the generation gap and caring for elderly parents. Sandeep Kulkarni played her husband, and her in-laws were portrayed by Ramesh Deo and Ashalata Wabgaonkar. Her 2012 film “Shyamche Vadil” featured her in the lead role of Leena, a demanding wife who pressures her husband for household money. After witnessing his father’s suffering for 22 years, their son Shyam decides to fight for his father’s rights, leading to a divorce. The role of the father, Madhav, was played by Tushar Dalvi, and Shyam was portrayed by debutant Chinmay Udgirkar.

In 2012, she appeared in the Marathi play “Mahasagar” alongside a star cast including Subodh Bhave, Ashalata Wabgaonkar, and Shailesh Datar. Originally written by Jaywant Dalvi, the play was remade after 20 years by actress Neelam Shirke under her banner Asmi Productions and directed by Neena Kulkarni. The original play, directed by Vijaya Mehta, featured notable actors such as Vikram Gokhale, Usha Nadkarni, Nana Patekar, Macchindra Kambli, and Bharti Achrekar.
