Career
Pahwa began her acting journey with the iconic role of Badki in the Doordarshan soap opera Hum Log (1984–1985). Prior to this, she honed her craft as a theatre actor with the Delhi-based group Sambhav. In 1994, she made the transition to Mumbai to pursue opportunities in films, television, and theatre.
She gained further recognition playing Maasi in the popular Zee TV soap opera Kasamh Se (2006–2009), known for her kind and loving portrayal towards the protagonist and his wife.
Pahwa’s versatility shone through in her acclaimed experiential theatre performance of Bhisham Sahni’s satire Saag Meat in 2014. She also garnered praise for her role in the beloved series Hip Hip Hurray, where she portrayed the role of a single mother.
Her talent as an actress was acknowledged with nominations for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in films like Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (both 2017), as well as Bala (2019). In 2020, Pahwa impressed audiences with her portrayal of Nani in Chintu Ka Birthday (2019), earning her the Filmfare OTT Award for Best Supporting Actress (Web Original).
Adding another feather to her cap, she made her directorial debut with the film Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi, which premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival in 2019. The film’s theatrical release in 2021 was met with critical acclaim, earning Pahwa the Filmfare Award for Best Debut Director at the 67th Filmfare Awards.
