Sapna Chaudhary was born in 1995 in Mahipalpur, Delhi. Her family hailed from a small village called Syarol in the Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh. Tragically, her father passed away due to illness when she was just 14 years old. To support her family, Sapna turned her passion for dancing and singing into a profession. She started performing at events and gradually gained fame and fortune.
Her career began with an orchestra team in Haryana, where she participated in Ragni programs. Eventually, she transitioned to stage dancing and gained recognition with her performance on the Haryanvi song ‘Solid Body Rai.’ This propelled her to fame not only in Haryana but also in neighboring states. Sapna also ventured into singing and lent her voice to over 20 songs.
In Bollywood, Sapna made her debut with an item number in the film “Journey of Bhangover.” She further showcased her talent in the song ‘Hat Ja Tau’ from the movie “Veerey Ki Wedding” and played a significant role in the film “Nanu Ki Jaanu,” starring Abhay Deol.
However, her career faced a setback when she became embroiled in controversy. In a program organized in Gurgaon in 2016, Sapna sang a Ragni that allegedly contained caste-based words targeting Dalits. This led to FIRs being filed against her in Hisar and Gurgaon. Despite issuing a public apology, she faced severe backlash on social media, which eventually led her to attempt suicide.
Sapna was granted bail by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on September 29, 2016. Additionally, she faced opposition when she added the title “Chaudhary” to her name, as some social organizations argued that she should use her Gotra, Atri. However, Sapna defended her choice, citing her rights under the Indian Constitution and her desire to connect with her audience.
