Malhotra was born on 25th February 1992 in Delhi, into a Punjabi Hindu family. She loves dancing, especially contemporary and ballet. After finishing her studies at Gargi College, she took part in a dance competition called Dance India Dance and even reached the top 100 contestants. Following her passion, she moved to Mumbai and started attending auditions. Initially, she worked behind the scenes, helping camerapersons with TV commercials. Later, she got a call from Mukesh Chhabra, a film casting director.

Career

Sanya was born to a Punjabi Hindu family. She began her journey in the entertainment world with a passion for dancing, specializing in contemporary and ballet styles. She ventured into the dance reality show Dance India Dance, reaching the top 100 contestants.

Moving to Mumbai, she explored auditions and initially worked behind the scenes assisting camerapersons for TV commercials. Her break came when film casting director Mukesh Chhabra noticed her talent.

Her big break was in Nitesh Tiwari’s Dangal (2016), a sports biopic, where she starred alongside Fatima Sana Shaikh. Despite not knowing much about wrestling initially, she dedicated herself to training and auditions. The film received immense praise, becoming the highest-grossing Indian film at that time.
