Sajid Khan’s journey in the entertainment industry began at a young age when he appeared in Mehboob Khan’s renowned 1957 Hindi film “Mother India” as a younger version of Sunil Dutt‘s character Birju. Following this, Mehboob Khan and his wife, Sardar Akhtar, took him under their wing, renaming him Sajid Khan.
In 1962, Sajid featured in the film “Son of India,” which was his father’s final project. Despite the film’s lackluster box office performance, critics lauded Sajid’s performance. However, tragedy struck in 1964 when his father passed away, prompting Sajid to move to the US to complete his higher education.
Sajid gained recognition in the US with his role in the 1966 film “Maya,” alongside Jay North. The film’s popularity led to the creation of a television series of the same name, which aired from September 1967 to February 1968.
During the early 1970s, Sajid found success in the Philippines, starring in romantic comedies alongside acclaimed actresses Nora Aunor and Vilma Santos. Despite this, his career began to decline, and he reportedly opened a retail store called ‘Artistic’ in India.
Throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, Sajid appeared in several Hindi and English films, including “Mahatma and the Mad Boy” (1974) and “Heat and Dust” (1983). He also ventured into music, releasing an album in 1969 and recording singles for RCA Records in Japanese.
In 1968, Sajid made guest appearances on television shows like “The Big Valley” and served as a guest judge on the music show “It’s Happening.” In 2000, he was featured in the television series “1857 Kranti.” Sajid Khan’s multifaceted career spanned acting, singing, and television appearances, leaving a lasting impact on the entertainment industry.
