Career

In 2014, while studying in Tbilisi, Georgia, Sai Pallavi was approached by film director Alphonse Puthren for a role in his film “Premam.” Initially hesitant, Pallavi eventually accepted the role of Malar after Alphonse convinced her. Her portrayal in “Premam” earned her several awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut.

In late 2015, Studio Green signed up Pa. Ranjith to direct a film titled “Madras” with Karthi in the lead role. Pallavi was initially chosen as the female lead but declined the offer to focus on her medical studies. Instead, she acted in her second Malayalam film, “Kali,” which earned her a Filmfare nomination.

In 2017, Pallavi made her Telugu debut in Sekhar Kammula’s “Fidaa,” where she played the role of Bhanumathi. Her performance garnered critical acclaim and won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu. Her next project was the Tamil-Telugu bilingual film “Diya,” followed by a role in “Maari 2” opposite Dhanush. The song “Rowdy Baby” from the film became a massive hit.

In 2018, Pallavi began shooting for “Padi Padi Leche Manasu” but the film failed commercially. Despite its failure, Pallavi refused her full remuneration as a gesture of solidarity with the producers.

She continued to expand her career with diverse roles, such as portraying an autistic girl in “Athiran” opposite Fahadh Faasil and appearing in “NGK” alongside Suriya. In 2020, Pallavi was recognized by Forbes magazine as one of India’s 30 under 30. She also acted in the Netflix anthology film series “Paava Kadhaigal.”

In 2021, she starred in the romantic drama “Love Story” and “Shyam Singa Roy.” The following year, she appeared in the Telugu film “Virata Parvam” opposite Rana Daggubati and received acclaim for her performance in “Gargi.”
